Whixley Evening League Results

East Keswick pulled off a fine (and first!) victory in the Whixley Evening League last night, despite only having 10 players. Batting first Whixley scored 152 off their 16 eight ball overs, racing to 95 off their first ten overs with plenty of wickets in hand. Keswick’s bowling attack, backed up by some good catching and fielding, then produced an excellent effort to limit them to just 57 more runs off the last 48 balls.

In reply Keswick suffered an early setback when Kevin Newlove was bowled for a duck in the first over, but Sohail Mohammed (26) and Andrew Hirst (18) then put on a half century partnership to keep Keswick in the game, albeit it facing a stiff run rate. The real damage was done when a superb knock by Mark Abram (67*) and a quick fire Neil Chapman (21) effort took the Whixley bowling apart. Two big hitting overs went for 43 runs, with the ball disappearing out of the ground on several occasions for huge sixes. The winning runs came in the last over with six balls to spare as Keswick coasted to victory.
