East Keswick had mixed fortunes at the weekend during their 20/20 match-up against Kirk Hammerton.
The 2nd XI overcame a good Division 5 team thanks to some excellent stroke-play from Hassan Mushtaq and Chaitanya Nath, alongside some strong late hitting from Afraz Khan. With some unspectacular but important middle order support from Ajay Vasudevan they reached a good total of 119 of their 20 overs.
In reply Kirk Hammerton struggled to get the scoreboard ticking with all bowlers contributing to an excellent performance as the opposition found themselves well behind the run rate and struggling to find the boundary. Backed up by some good fielding Kirk Hammerton fell a dozen or so runs short of the target.
With the 1st XI skipper winning the toss and choosing to bat first the team struggled to post a decent total - in part to some poor shots and in part due to a wicket that was proving harder to bat on. As a result the home team were dismissed for only 44 runs. In reply Keswick retrieved a little pride as they snaffled four Kirk Hammerton wickets thanks to some good bowling from Bidyke Utchay and Muhammad Kamran.
With the friendly matches out of the way the season can begin in earnest next week with both teams taking on Whixley CC. Teams for these games will appear here on Wednesday evening.
Good luck to all concerned!
