What should have been a great day for the East Keswick 1st team dissolved into farce after a series on incidents led to them losing their final game of the season against South Milford. With a first team player reporting that no wicket had been cut, no holes for stumps made, an uncut outfield and no league umpires, the game was lost with South Milford reaching East Keswick’s total of 111 all out for the loss of just 5 wickets. This gave them promotion to Division 1 but no league title and left the question of whether there will be a team representing the 1st team in the top flight next season…
The 2nd team travelled to South Milford and amassed 268-6 with Ashley Richardson reaching 1000 runs for the season whilst making his third century of the season. Neil Chapman rolled back the years with a speedy 62 and Muhammad Kamran hit five huge sixes in making 36 not out. In reply East Keswick’s ten men made a good fist of trying to remove South Milford but failed at the last hurdle with just one wicket left when the overs ran out. This gave them 5 points and a chance of promotion had Saxton or Garforth slipped up in their remaining game. Unfortunately however they had both won leaving East Keswick an agonizing 4 points short of promotion into Division 5.

ReplyDeleteEither that's a typo, or a lot of wickets fell for not a lot of runs...
