Results - Week 11

Week 11 saw both East Keswick teams win in convincing fashion.

The 1st team bowled out second place rivals Leeds Police for just 190, before knocking the runs off for the loss of just four wickets. The win takes them 12 points clear of Leeds Police at the half way point in the season.

The 2nd team travelled to bottom of the table Wighill Park where they won the toss and chose to bat first. A good start by Andrew Hirst (35), Farid Hussain (30) and Imran Hussain (45) took Keswick to 137-3, but the loss of four quick wickets put some pressure on the middle and lower order. However Steven Marsh (25), Steve Skerrett (9) and Tony Goodwin (8) put on some vital runs to set an under par but defendable total of 196.

Keswick got off to a great start when Mohammed Ashfaq claimed the first victim in the last ball of his first over with the score on just two runs. From there on Keswick were always on top thanks to some excellent bowling by all the bowlers, especially Farid Hussain who consistently beat the bat with little luck.

When the last wicket fell Wighill were all out for 101 runs leaving Keswick fourth in the table, just 5 points behind third place, and 7 points behind second. The 2nd team have now won six out of their last seven games.

Whixley Evening League - Week 8

On Thursday evening East Keswick take on Green Hammerton at home in the Whixley Evening League. Any team news will appear on here.

2nd Team Statistics - Week 10

Dismissals – 49 out of 81 (60%) of East Keswick’s dismissals this season have been caught out. Neil Chapman extended his streak of being caught out to 8 on Saturday! Other batsmen being caught out often include, Andrew Hirst (6 out of 10), Ashley Richardson (7 out of 9) and James Cosgrove (6 out of 10) The top batsman for being bowled out is Gareth, with 5 out of 6 dismissals resulting in the feared death rattle.

Result - Betty Chadderton Cup

On Sunday afternoon East Keswick went out of the Betty Chadderton Cup semi-final after a poor all round display against a strong St Chads team.

Batting first East Keswick got to sixty-plus for the loss of just one wicket before being bowled out for just 106 with only three Keswick players made it into double figures. Some poor shot selection and running between the wickets was then compounded by a bowling and fielding display that saw 21 wides and four dropped catches, three of which could well have left Chads struggling at 45-5. Instead they cruised to victory with plenty of overs in hand.

Week 10 - Results

Week 10 again saw good victories for both the first and second teams.

The first team bowled South Milford out for 145 and easily knocked the runs off for the loss of just two wickets. This keeps them top of division 2.

The second team made it six wins out of the last seven with a convincing win over South Milford A. Batting first East Keswick made 202-9 in their 45 overs, with Farid Hussain (45) and Ashley Richardson (44*), and Sohail Mohammed (24) leading the run scoring.

In reply Keswick's bowlers reduced South Milford to 139 all out, with Andy Barber producing an excellent spell of bowling with figures of 12-1-33-4 and Mohammed Ashfaq with 7.3-1-24-2. The win took East Keswick to 5th place in the table.

Whixley Evening League Results

East Keswick pulled off a fine (and first!) victory in the Whixley Evening League last night, despite only having 10 players. Batting first Whixley scored 152 off their 16 eight ball overs, racing to 95 off their first ten overs with plenty of wickets in hand. Keswick’s bowling attack, backed up by some good catching and fielding, then produced an excellent effort to limit them to just 57 more runs off the last 48 balls.

In reply Keswick suffered an early setback when Kevin Newlove was bowled for a duck in the first over, but Sohail Mohammed (26) and Andrew Hirst (18) then put on a half century partnership to keep Keswick in the game, albeit it facing a stiff run rate. The real damage was done when a superb knock by Mark Abram (67*) and a quick fire Neil Chapman (21) effort took the Whixley bowling apart. Two big hitting overs went for 43 runs, with the ball disappearing out of the ground on several occasions for huge sixes. The winning runs came in the last over with six balls to spare as Keswick coasted to victory.

Week 8 - Results

East Keswick 1st team travelled to Saxton and sent them crashing to a heavy defeat in wet conditions. Batting first Saxton made just 71 runs, with the first team knocking them off for the loss of just two wickets. This victory sends the team to the top of division 2.

The 2nd team hosted Saxton A, and some sterling work by Yogi, Harry and Gareth meant the ground was fit for play, albeit with the overs reduced to 40 overs. Winning the toss, and choosing to bowl first Saxton A restricted East Keswick to 133 all out on a tricky batting surface. Ashley Richardson scored 47 and down the order Gareth Meredith scored an important 18 not out.

Batting second Saxton A lost a couple of early wickets thanks to a run out and early wicket by Mohammed Ashfaq. Saxton then responded taking them within only two dozen runs to win with half a dozen wickets in hand. However some excellent bowling by Ashley Richardson (3-26) and Mohammed Ashfaq (5-38) took East Keswick to an excellent 2 run victory and keeps them in touch with the leading teams.

Result - Whixley Evening League

On Thursday evening East Keswick took on Tadcaster Magnets, in Tadcaster. Batting first Keswick made 143 all out with James Cosgrove top scoring with 52. In reply Tadcaster Magnets knocked off the total in the growing darkness and sent Keswick to another loss in the competition.

Week 8 – East Keswick 2nd Team Selection

5. Mohammed Ashfaq
6. Fareed
7. Gareth Meredith
8. Steven Marsh
9. Matt Couchman
10. Steve Skerrett (Wkt.)

11. Zaheer Ahmed

The weather forecast for this evening, throughout the night, and Saturday morning is for rain, heavy at times. From 12-1pm onwards it will hopefully clear away and remain largely dry. Yogi says the outfield will stand a good deal of rainfall and that the wicket will be covered from this afternoon onwards. Providing the ground is playable at around lunchtime, the plan is to wait until the rain stops and then try and get the game underway, playing reduced overs if necessary. With Saxton being at the top of the table they should hopefully want to play the game rather than call it off. So fingers crossed!

Week 7 - Bowling Stats

Here are the bowling stats for the East Keswick 2nd Team up to week 7.

Result - Betty Chadderton Rose Bowl, Quarter Final

On Sunday 31st May, East Keswick Seconds played Garforth Parish Church in the Betty Chadderton Rose Bowl quarter final. Under clear blue skies East Keswick lost the toss and were put in to bat on a wicket offering some life to the bowlers early on.

James Cosgrove and Andrew Hirst got Keswick off to a good start reaching 48 before the loss of the first wicket. Zaheer Ahmed then made a fluent 36 before being bowled, leaving Keswick on 100-2. After that the usual Keswick collapse ensued as wickets tumbled leaving the team 112-5 with 12 overs remaining.

However a solid partnership between Mohammed Ashfaq (51*) and Gareth Meredith (12) took Keswick up to the 200 mark, with Ashfaq bringing up his 50 with a six over mid-wicket. This left Keswick on a respectable 204-9 after their 40 overs.

In reply Garforth PC got off to a steady start, but one that was leaving them behind an increasing run rate. Man of the match Ashfaq (3 for 47) struck when removing the two opening batsmen, and with the next four players only making 6 runs between thanks to some good bowling by James Cosgrove (3 for 16), Garforth PC found themselves requiring a near impossible 10 runs an over.

Only some good late batting took them to 167-9, leaving them 38 runs short of the total and putting Keswick through to the Semi-Finals.

Week 7 - Results

Week 7 saw East Keswick 1st's bounce back from a heavy defeat the previous week to comfortable beat Bilton in Ainsty. Scoring 225/9 Keswick strolled to a comfortable win by dismissing the visitors for just 142.

The 2nd team slipped to defeat away at Little Ribston by 11 runs. Ribston batting first reached 166/7 with Matt Couchman taking 4/35 and Ashley Richardson 2/23. Once again however Keswick's batting let them down as they went from 123/3 to 155 all out with Ashley Richardson (32) and James Cosgrove (29) topping the run scoring.
