Bank Holiday Weekend - Results

On Saturday East Keswick went to Bilton requiring a win to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and the 1st XI went down by 7 wickets after a good platform gave them the chance of making 180+ but the tumbling of wickets meant they fell short. Bharath top scored in Keswick's total of 156 making a fine 46 and despite some tight middle order bowling the opposition reached the target with overs to spare.

Bank Holiday Monday saw the Eagles travel to Bardsey and take on the Super 8's in the LMS semi-final. Bowling first Keswick made a good start but a few expensive overs saw the Super 8's reach 186 (or so!) in their 20 overs.

In reply some explosive hitting from Rahul and some run-a-ball support from Andrew got Keswick off to a fine start as Rahul regularly smashed the ball to and over the boundary as he retired after making 50*. Bobby came to the wicket, blasted a few more fours and a six in making 19 before a fine catch in the deep removed him. Andrew reached 27 before being dismissed in a similar fashion, by the same fielder. Bharath and Venu tried to keep the runs flowing, but a debatable run out led to Venu's dismissal and Kamran fell first ball, Utchay was run out and Ravi hit six before being bowled the following ball.

This left Rahul to try and do the impossible and smash 11 an over off the remaining 3 overs. Smashing some massive blows he took Keswick within the last ball and a six off the last ball to win (which in LMS rules counts as 12!) but the excellent final over was capped by an excellent last ball and Keswick fell 10 or so runs short of victory and Rahul a mighty 75* from just 39 balls.

Well played to everyone involved, an excellent if disappointing end to the clubs first LMS season. (I'll post a link to the game's scorecard when it appears.

Sunday 28 August 2011

Squad for LMS Final Day

Kamran has selected the 10 man squad for the LMS game against the Super 8's on Monday at 11am.

LMS - Finals Day

On Bank Holiday Monday East Keswick will play in the Last Man Stands finals day at Bardsey CC. At 11am we will play the Super 8's and victory in that match would see us play in the final against the winners of Bardsey vs. Hall Park Lions at 4pm.

Thursday 25 August 2011

LMS - Team Selection vs. Chad Power

The team for the game against Chad Power on Friday evening has been made and can be seen here.

Tuesday 23 August 2011

Some sad news....

On Saturday evening long time East Keswick stalwart Freda Greenwood died following continued ill health. Freda had for many years been an integral part of the club until a couple of year ago when old age meant she moved out of the village and into a nursing home. She carried out many roles at the club, from scorer and tea maker to club treasurer and will be missed by all who knew her (and ate her chocolate cakes!).

Her funeral will take place on Friday at 11am at East Keswick Parish Church.

LMS Result - Eagles vs. Sledgers

East Keswick Eagles came within one win of a trip to Bardsey and the Last Man Stands Finals day with a comfortable 38 run win against Symington's Sledgers.

Despite losing Bobby (1) and Bharath (3) early on in a double play, Keswick came back into the game thanks to 59 from Venu, 44 from Andrew and 24 from Cherry. Some tight bowling put the opposition well behind the run rate and the Eagles ran out easy winners.

A win on Friday against Chad Power would see Keswick take part in the four team cup final at Bardsey CC on Monday the 29th August at 11am. All support would be welcome!

Sunday 21 August 2011

LMS - Team Selection

The team selection for the game against Symington's Sledgers at St. Chads on Monday evening has been made and can be found here.

Week 19 - Results

Week 19 saw the 1st XI suffer a heavy loss at the hands of Sicklinghall. Batting first the 1st XI scored 95 all out with Rahul top scoring. In reply the home side knocked the runs off for the loss of just two wickets. With other results going against them this leaves Keswick staring at relegation into the division three unless they can muster three wins from their last three games and hope other results go their way.

The 2nd XI beat Great Preston in the home friendly match after bowling the away team out for just 65, with Sekhar taking 3 wickets and Sundeep 2 wickets. The 2nd XI knocked the runs off for the loss of just two wickets.

Saturday 6 August 2011

Week 17 - Results

Week 17 saw the 1st XI outplay 4th place Thorner on a tricky away wicket. Put in to bat they scored a defendable, but below par score of 149, thanks to a patient knock of 18 from the skipper, 29 from fellow opener Bharath, 26 from Rahul and 23 from Bobby. In reply Thorner had little in the way of an answer as Muthiah took 4-21, Ravi 3-40, Kamran 2-7 and Andy 1-9 as the hosts were skittled for 80 runs.

The 2nd XI lost narrowly by 2 wickets at home against South Milford as they posted 191 after being 135-8.

All reports to follow later.

East Keswick XI vs. Orpington CC

Orpington CC won their touring 20/20 friendly match by 8 runs after batting first and making 168-4. Pick of the Orpington batting was Chris White who made a fluent 58* before retiring and Ben Clarkson who made 36. For East Keswick Andy Barber was the star performer with the ball claiming two wickets on the way to figures of 4-0-31-2.

In reply Rahul made a fine 48 including five fours and three sixes. The Keswick middle order failed to fire however but unlikely win was brought within reach as Kamran smashed four sixes and a four in a rearguard 34. In the end however Keswick fell 8 runs short and retreated back to the Duke of Wellington with the touring side for some sandwiches, a well earned beer and presentation.

Best wishes to Orpington for the rest of their tour and season.

For the first time in a long while both East Keswick teams claimed victory.

The 1st XI beat Kirk Hammerton by two wickets thanks to a superb Man of the Match display by Ravi Teja who claimed a magnificent 9-27 as the opposition were removed for just 58. In reply Keswick made a hash of reaching the low total but crept over the line with two wickets remaining as Ravi hit the winning runs.

The 2nd XI chased a decent total of 202 against Scholes and despite a middle order wobble were brought home by 5 wickets thanks to a cracking half century by Gunalan and forty more from Sekhar.

Well done all!

Last Man Stand - Days of Play

The games will be played on Sunday's and week day evening's to suit the teams playing. You can register your interest to play for East Keswick in the competition here.

Last Man Stands (again)

The club has until the 26th June to register itself for the Last Man Stands competition which will be running from the start of July. We currently have 8 players expressing an interest and while this is enough to make up the required 8 man team we'd ideally like a few more. There are no plans to charge any money to play in these games and the club would cover the £160 registration fee.

You can get a full rundown on this new anorexic version of cricket here and/or watch the ECB Last Man Stands Promo video below.

I've asked which day the games will be played on and will post an update later - so please check back!

Week 9 - Match Report

Can now be found by clicking here. The 2nd team report will follow later.

Update: Scorecard added to 1st team report.

Week 9 - Results

Week 9 saw both East Keswick teams defeated.

The 1st XI took on top of the table Bilton and due to a no show by one of their players and the refusal of the opposition captain to allow a replacement had to play with just 10 men. This however was not enough to stop a remarkable display as they took the top of the table team down to the last over of 47 requiring just one wicket to win before Bilton crept over the finishing line.

The 2nd XI fell to another defeat as they bowled Amaranth out for 116 but then failed once again with the bat as they were bowled out for 99.

Reports to follow later.

Another reminder to those who have not paid that providing you have been playing on a regular basis you should be paying the £20 registration fee. If you wish to pay in installments this is fine.

The alternative is to make one tea for a game. This should consist of a couple of varities of sandwiches (veg and meat), and some cakes, biscuits etc.. This can be done for under £20, so if you'd rather make a tea than pay the £20 please contact the club.

So far this season he had scored 148 runs at an average of 37.00 and last year played a leading role in the club being promoted in all but name.

Best of luck from all at East Keswick CC

Sunday 5 June 2011

Week 8 - Result

The 1st team went down by just 33 runs against second placed Sicklinghall in a game that saw the visitors get only 138-9 from their 45 overs. In reply Keswick were dismissed for 105 runs, earning themselves an important point in the process.

Match report to follow Monday.

Thursday 2 June 2011

League Structure - 2012 Season

The club received the following e-mail about the proposed Wetherby League structure from 2012.

"The Senior Cricket Committee have discussed the need to slightly change the league structure for next season so that we have six divisions as opposed to the current five and a half and we agreed that all clubs need to be informed of the change as soon as possible so everyone is aware of how many teams will be promoted and relegated this season.

We propose that no division shall consist of less than 10 teams and to increase the number of teams in division 6 for next season we will need to slightly reduce the teams in divisions 4 and 5. As it stands now we have 67 teams and based on this we propose the following:

·         Divisions 1 to 3 – unchanged with 12 teams in each division
·         Division 4 – reduced to 11 teams
·         Division 5 – reduced to 10 teams
·         Division 6 – increased to 10 teams

Obviously, this would reduce the number of league games for some teams but until we return to 72 teams it is very difficult for us to provide all teams with 22 league games per season. There will be an opportunity for teams to play additional games against those who also have blank league weeks if they prefer to do so which would limit the loss of fixtures/income. This will be looked at once the 2012 league fixture schedule has been finalised.

We believe that two teams should still be promoted from each division and the changes would be made by increasing the number of teams who are relegated (1 extra from division 4 and 3 extra from division 5).

We are actively seeking additional clubs/teams which may reduce the need to increase the number of teams relegated but until we have official applications we are working with what we currently have."

A big thanks to the Leeds Golf Centre who have just donated to East Keswick CC one of their splendid grass mowers. This will mean that the outfield should look even more beautiful than it usually does. A big thanks to Leeds Golf Centre!

Last Man Stands

The club has been given the chance to take part in a new tournament called 'Last Man Stands'. Full details can be seen below. If you're interested in playing and/or running the team please fill in the form here.

"Last Man Stands is a global 8-a-side amateur Twenty20 Cricket League. Typically each game is completed in less than 2 hours making it the perfect game to play on midweek evenings or on Sundays. The action is on its way to Leeds. It’s quick, exciting, and fast-paced – so what are you waiting for?

Last Man Stands is all about the excitement of Twenty20 cricket with a difference – 20 overs are played, but with 5 balls per over instead of 6, each side consists of 8 players as opposed to the regulation 11, and sides can only be bowled out when all 8 players are dismissed – hence the name, Last Man Stands.

There are 20,000 players and 1,200 teams playing Last Man Stands Cricket in 5 countries and 30 cities around the world. Once your team starts competing, each player will receive a global ranking within 24 hours of the completion of each match. Most excitingly, the newly established Last Man Stands Leeds League will fit into the global structure of the game, meaning that the winners of the Leeds Champions League will then be entered into the Yorkshire and North of England Regional Finals, with the subsequent winner progressing into the National Finals which in 2010 were held at the home of cricket, Lords.

The ultimate winners of the National Finals will then receive paid flights to Cape Town to take part in the Last Man Stands 2012 World Championship. The 2010 World Championship took place on the Gold Coast of Australia. The eventual tournament winners, Protea Coin, were crowned World Champions and took $10,000 in prize money back home to Pretoria in South Africa.

The Last Man Stands Leeds League will commence shortly so please ensure you register your team as soon as possible. Last Man Stands is open to anyone including groups of friends, workmates and clubs who want to involve more of their members in the game.

Costs and Inclusions

Week 7 saw both Keswick sides slump to defeats. The 1st XI made a decent start in reaching 50-2 but were then skittled out for just 76. The 2nd XI made 129 all out against Hillam but despite some good bowling went down by 9 wickets.

Touring side wanting 20/20 game

I received the following mail the other day. I'm sure we could raise enough people wanting to play this one off mid-week 20/20 game? Any volunteers?

"Orpington CC (www.orpingtoncc.co.uk) will be touring Leeds during the week commencing 25 July 2011 and are looking for some fixtures against local sides.

Orpington are returning to Leeds for the second time in 3 years following the success of our Leeds Tour 2009. We are a very friendly side who enjoy socialising after the game.

Would you be interested in offering us a fixture on 25,26,27,28 July? Anything from an evening 20/20 to an all day game?

Kind Regards

Orpington CC "

Bramham & Clifford - Division 6

The following information was received this afternoon from the Wetherby Cricket League.

"Bramham & Clifford have confirmed that, as expected, their 2nd XI will not be in a position to fulfil any fixtures in Division 6 this season.

All points gained by teams from fixtures forfeited by Bramham & Clifford will now be expunged.

Of the 7 remaining teams in Division 6, Amaranth, East Keswick, Hillam & Monk Fryston and Whixley were due to play Bramham & Clifford 4 times. This now means that they will only be playing 18 league fixtures this season whilst Green Hammerton, Scholes and South Milford were due to play them only twice leaving them with 20 league fixtures.

The Senior Cricket Committee considered the following options:

1.      To leave the fixture schedule as it is and calculate the league table on an average points per game basis.

2.      To arrange 2 additional fixtures for the teams who will be playing 18 so that all teams play 20.

3.      To remove 2 fixtures from the teams who will be playing 20 so that all teams play 18.

We felt that option 1 could be difficult to administer and option 2 would be unpopular as the additional fixtures would need to be played on a Sunday, therefore, we have decided that option 3 is the only feasible solution. To ensure that all 7 teams play 18 league fixtures the following will now be classed as friendlies:

·         4th June – Green Hammerton A v Scholes A

·         25th June – Scholes A v South Milford A

·         23rd July – South Milford A v Green Hammerton A

They will still need to be played under the same rules as all other league games except that no league points will be awarded, appearances will not count towards the cup/last 3 league games rule, individual performances will not count towards the league averages, the results do not need to be texted and no match return is required.

Although it is a shame that Bramham & Clifford A are unable to fulfil their fixtures there are two positives that have arisen:

1.      Great Preston have a number of spare players this season and after a discussion with them they have agreed to field a 3rd XI on all the weeks when Bramham & Clifford were scheduled to play away, starting with Scholes on 28th May. As Great Preston B did not enter the WCL this season, none of these games will need to be played under the league rules, therefore, the clubs may be flexible to suit.

2.      When teams do have blank weeks they should be in a position to put their entire 2nd XI into the Player Pool and hopefully prevent other teams from having to cancel fixtures due to a shortage of players.

The Senior Cricket Committee will discuss promotion and the future structure of Division 6 at their meeting next week. If you would like to submit any recommendations from your club regarding these matters please do not hesitate to contact me before the end of the week."

Free cricket shoes on offer!

Shoes have been taken by Guru!

I've bought a new pair of cricket spikes (that convert into trainers!) so i have no need for my old pair, picture below. They are Slazenger, UK size 9's - although they might fit size 8's with a decent pair of sports socks. They need a bit of a clean, otherwise in perfectly good condition.

The first person to e-mail me will have first option on them.

Sunday 17 April 2011

Week 1 - Match Reports

The Week 1 reports for both 1st and 2nd XI's can be found by clicking on the results column on the Fixtures & Results page.

Week 1 - Results

The first week of the season saw both East Keswick teams take points from their opening games.

The 1st XI fought hard for a point after conceding a massive 276-2 runs on a good batting wicket at Whixley. Guru and Rahul held the Keswick innings together on their way to 71 and 60 runs respectively as the team clocked up a respectable 224-8 in reply. Guru's patient knock was in contrast to Rahul who displayed some exceptional hitting as he blasted five sixes and four fours in this 38 ball knock.

The 2nd team made 170 all out thanks to a cavalier top score of 39 from Chris Allen and a boundary strewn effort from debutant Shekar Bellum. In reply some good Keswick bowling reduced Whixley 2nd XI to 126 all out with John 'One Armed Bandit' Barber taking four wickets and Chris Allen chipping in with three four more of his own.

Full reports will appear here later.

A reminder about weekly playing fees

Just a reminder about the costs of playing for the forthcoming season.

Subs per game (Home and Away):
£5.00 (Adult/in work)
£3.00 (Junior/student/out of work)

Cricket Tea
£2.50 (Home games - optional payment if you are wanting something to eat)
£2.50 (Away games - not optional as League rules state we have to pay the home team £25 to cover the cots of them making food in advance for all 11 players)

As an example a student would pay the following:
Home games - £3.00 (or £5.50 if you want a tea)
Away games - £5.50 (even if you DON'T want a tea)

The payment of this money each week is especially important for the 1st team players due to additional costs of paying an umpire (£25) and scorer (£15). If the same 1st team were to play this Saturday as played on Sunday afternoon in the friendly we would collect a total of £66.50 which would only just cover the required £65.00.

If you have any problems, or think you will have any problems with the costs please drop the club an email.

Monday 11 April 2011

Pre-Season Friendlies vs. Kirk Hammerton

East Keswick had mixed fortunes at the weekend during their 20/20 match-up against Kirk Hammerton.

The 2nd XI overcame a good Division 5 team thanks to some excellent stroke-play from Hassan Mushtaq and Chaitanya Nath, alongside some strong late hitting from Afraz Khan. With some unspectacular but important middle order support from Ajay Vasudevan they reached a good total of 119 of their 20 overs.

In reply Kirk Hammerton struggled to get the scoreboard ticking with all bowlers contributing to an excellent performance as the opposition found themselves well behind the run rate and struggling to find the boundary. Backed up by some good fielding Kirk Hammerton fell a dozen or so runs short of the target.

With the 1st XI skipper winning the toss and choosing to bat first the team struggled to post a decent total - in part to some poor shots and in part due to a wicket that was proving harder to bat on. As a result the home team were dismissed for only 44 runs. In reply Keswick retrieved a little pride as they snaffled four Kirk Hammerton wickets thanks to some good bowling from Bidyke Utchay and Muhammad Kamran.

With the friendly matches out of the way the season can begin in earnest next week with both teams taking on Whixley CC. Teams for these games will appear here on Wednesday evening.

Good luck to all concerned!

Google Maps - Driving Directions

For those people driving to games i've added Google map links to the away games in the Fixtures & Results page. Due to some of these grounds being away from built up areas the postcodes provided on the Wetherby League website (see here) won't always bring you exactly to the ground itself.

I've tried to make sure the Google map links are as close as possible - so if you can use Google maps on your mobile you should find these easier to find. These links will also be provided each week inside the Upcoming Fixtures box on the top right of the front page.

The good news for 1st team players who are not familiar with teams in the 2nd Division is that 4 of the 11 away games (Thorner, Bramhope, Old Leo's, Leeds Police) are actually in and around Leeds so the driving distances will be quite short - in fact closer than driving to East Keswick (if you live in Leeds that is!)

Friday 8 April 2011

Money for Club Shirts & Registration Fee

Just a reminder that you can bring money to pay for your club shirt on Sunday, as well as your players registration fee. You don't have to pay for either in full straight away, so any contribution you want to make will be accepted on the day.

Thursday 7 April 2011

Transport for pre-season friendly

Could all players who require a lift to East Keswick please be outside the Indoor Cricket Centre in Headingley no later than 11.15am. PLEASE BE ON TIME! :-) From there you will be picked up by car and taken to the ground.

Important: In order to make sure there is enough space for everyone in the cars could the following people make sure they are picked up by John Barber (not Kamran or Bobby!):

Cherry, Ajay, Karthik & Rahul

Documents Page - Updated

The Documents page now has a link to the Wetherby League Rules document. Not required reading (or even suggested reading!) for anyone except club captains and vice captains.

Don't forget if you have a Excel 2007/10 on your computer you can download (for free) the rather splendid Cricket Stats Tracker Solo from the documents page to keep track of your seasons batting and bowling averages.

Tuesday 5 April 2011

Team Selection - Friendly vs. Kirk Hammerton

The teams have now been selected for the friendly against Kirk Hammerton on Sunday 10th April from 12.30pm onwards. You can see them on them by clicking here.

The intention is to make sure everyone who wants to play gets the opportunity to do so. As a result these teams do not necessarily reflect who will play on the opening day of the season on the 16th April. If you cannot make the game, please let the club know as soon as possible.

Transport to the ground is currently being sorted out. Details of where to meet and when will be posted later in the week. Please check for details!

Monday 4 April 2011

Player Selection – Important information

East Keswick CC's request for new players for the 2011 season has been met with an excellent response, not only in terms of numbers but also of the quality of those attending the indoor nets. As the start of the 2011 season league approaches the selection committee will be sitting down to discuss the teams for the first game of the season on the 16th April. This is always a difficult task and with a squad of more than 22 players it will mean that each week some people will be disappointed when the teams are announced here. In order to help people understand the process of selecting players, the clubs general approach is as follows:

  • All players who are signed up to play for East Keswick Cricket Club (regardless of their ability) should be willing to play for either team as and when requested (if they have made themselves available for selection).
  • The club will do its best to make sure that during the course of the season everyone wanting to play gets to do so as regularly as possible.
  • The club will give all players the chance at proving themselves.
  • The club will reward all players who are producing good performances with the opportunity to play a more prominent role in the team they are in, or to play at a higher level.
  • The club will inform players why they have not been selected, if/when they are asked.
A balance will always try to be struck between trying to win games and making sure people enjoy playing for the club. It would be fair to say that 1st team cricket will have more emphasis on winning, but as anyone who has played 2nd team cricket will tell you it's not short of some fierce competition! If you have any questions regarding team selection or anything else at the club please don't hesitate to contact us or speak to either of the club captains throughout the season.

The club would like to put on record its thanks everyone who has signed up to play and wish them the very best for the forthcoming season.

Shirts & Caps Ordered!

Those players who requested shirts and/or caps have had their orders placed. These will be available for the first game of the season. If possible can you please bring the payment (£15 for shirt, £7 for cap) to the friendly game this coming Sunday.

Friday 1 April 2011

Cricket Clothing

Just a reminder to all new players that you will need a set of white trousers and white t-shirt for the friendly match next Sunday. If you're looking to avoid spending much money then i'd suggest a cheapish pair can be bought over the net, or you could try JJB Sports on Albion Street in the city centre (or the one in Kirkstall near Morrisons).

You might also want to look at buying a pair of cricket shoes (trainers might be fine in the dry weather, but in the wet you might find you spend more time on your backside) and/or a jumper, as im sure you know it can still be cold during an English summer (Mumbai this is not!)

A box and strap would also be beneficial, although im sure people will happily lend you some equipment if needed.

Any questions or problems please feel free to ask...

Final Indoor Net Session

This Sunday’s final indoors net session will be from 2pm – 4pm.

Wednesday 30 March 2011

If you would like a cap, please include this information in the email. I cant order the shirts until everyone who wanted one lets me know!

East Keswick vs. Kirk Hammerton

We are pleased to confirm that on Sunday 10th April at 12.30pm East Keswick will take on Kirk Hammerton in two games of 20/20 (at East Keswick). Players who wish to be considered for the games should let the club know via e-mail as soon as possible.

Providing the weather stays fine there will be a BBQ along with the usual cricket teas. There will be no costs involved other than the food and drink on offer.

Please note that this match will replace the final net session at Headingley indoor cricket centre.

Wednesday 23 March 2011

Pre-Season Friendlies

The club are currently working on providing a pre-season friendly on Sunday, 10th April against Kirk Hammerton Cricket Club. This will involve both 1st and 2nd teams with full details will be announced shortly. If you are unavailable to play on this date please can you let the club know so we can take this into consideration when making team selections.

Monday 21 March 2011

IMPORTANT - Cricket Club Registration Fees

Please read!

The club are now accepting the Registration Fees. As previously mentioned the cost is £20 per person, or the provision of one cricket tea (for a home game) during the season (this generally comes to around £20)

We'd encourage all players to pay the £20 rather than provide a tea, although this is entirely your choice. If you choose to make a tea you must inform us of this before Sunday, 3rd April - failure to do so will require you to pay the £20 cash amount instead. If you want to pay the £20 but are unable to do so in one amount, we will accept payment in smaller amounts but this must be paid in full before the end of April.
This money is vital, without it there would be no cricket as it goes towards the substantial running costs of the club. You can read the full breakdown of costs here, but as one example the club has to find a minimum of £530 to cover the costs of buying enough cricket balls for the season.

Before you do anything else please e-mail the club on: eastkeswickcc@gmail.com and state how you wish to pay the £20 registration fee and whether this will be in one or more payments. You can bring the money along to the cricket nets at Headingley.

Edit: Anyone playing the occasional game will not be required to pay £20 fee.

Edit: Most other clubs charge £40+ for their player registration fees!

Friday 18 March 2011

Club Shirts & Caps - Important

The club is looking to have made some more shirts and caps this season - ideally we would like every player to have at least a shirt with the logo stitched on. To have the shirts made will cost £15 each, caps £7. Whilst the club might look to subsidize some of the costs, and allow people to pay in installments, we'd like players to indicate how much they will pay for the shirts. To help please take part in the poll over on the right side of the website!

The shirts look like this:

East Keswick CC Shirt

Please could you also inform your club members of this service to enable them to keep up to date with everything on the WCL website.

Statistics - Update

Some the links on the statistics and documents page have been failing to work. I've now amended them so there should be no further problems...fingers crossed.

Player Availability - 2011 Season

One of the main issues in sorting out two teams for each week of the season is knowing when players are available for selection. Therefore if you already know that you will be unavailable on a particular Saturday (between the 16th April and 10th September) can you please let us know now so we can plan accordingly.

Additionally please try and remember to inform the club of your unavailability as the season progresses. The more notice you can give us, the better - although we accept this is not always possible.

Averages - Update

Overall bowling statistics have been added to the Statistics page for the period 2008-2010. Fielding statistics will also be added in the next few days.

Additionally the website is undergoing a few changes to accommodate new information, so you might notice pages being removed or added in the next few weeks. For instance there will be a new Documents page added (replacing the Match Reports page which will be removed. This will host links to a variety of club documents available to download, one of which will be Cricket Stats Tracker Solo - a very handy (and free) Excel spreadsheet used to keep track of your individual batting and bowling performances over the coming season.

Player Profiles

The player profiles page has been updated. If you haven't completed the player profile form then you can do so by emailing the club at: eastkeswickcc@gmail.com and you'll be sent the link.

1st Team Scorer Required - PAID JOB!

Under WCL rules the 1st team must provide someone outside of the 11 selected players to act as the clubs scorer for each Saturday game. As a result East Keswick are looking for someone (or some people) to do the job throughout the season.

The club would pay £15 per game, provide a free cricket tea as well as transport to and from the games. If you would like to do this job (or know of someone who might!) then please contact the club at: eastkeswickcc@gmail.com. If you have not scored before or need refreshing on what to do, then training would be given.

Note: At present it is possible that not everybody wanting a game will play each and every week due to the number of players we have. So if you are intending on playing for the club but are tempted by earning some money on a Saturday afternoon should you not make the final XI, then please get in touch.

IMPORTANT - Player Fees

East Keswick CC wants to make sure that everyone who wants to play can afford to play, so with this in mind the club has agreed the following prices for the 2011 season. Please read the following carefully and if you have any questions or concerns please contact Andrew Hirst on: eastkeswickcc@gmail.com

Match Day Fee: (price to play per home/away game)

£5.00 (Adults in full-time work)
£3.00 (Students, unemployed)

Home Games: Optional cost of buying a tea:  £2.50

Away Games: Compulsory payment by each East Keswick player to the home team for providing a tea (whether you want one or not) : £2.50

Registration Fee: £20 (All players)

This can either be paid as a one off payment of £20, OR as many players choose to do by providing a tea (ie. sandwiches and snacks) for just ONE home game during the season. Exceptions will be made for people playing a limited number of games.

As an example of the costs....If you are a student and the game is at home it would cost you £3.00, or £5.50 with a tea. If you are a student and playing away from home you would have to pay £5.50 each week as the Wetherby Cricket League states that away teams must pay a fixed amount per team for their teas*.

The club hopes these costs are affordable for everyone who wants to play for the club. Other teams charge considerably higher prices for registration and match day fees. However, if you genuinely think you cannot afford the cost then contact the club at the e-mail address mentioned above.

*If you are wondering why you have to pay for a tea away from home, even if you don't want anything to eat, it is because in recent seasons home teams have made food for the away team only for their players to choose not to eat anything. This resulted in a waste of food, time and money. The WCL decided therefore to make each away team pay a fixed amount for the tea which works out at £25 per team, or roughly £2.50 each player)

Email Subscription

Im not sure when the last reminder came out but some maybe unaware that there is an email subscription service available. Once subscribed all updates to this website will be automatically emailed to you, this would include team selections etc.

Also, I have recently found that my email address has had issues with the email subscription service and have had to resubscribe. Older users may not know that they have the same problem and may wish to do the same..

If you scroll down the webpage, you will see a "Click here to subscribe" (just below the twitter feed).

Stay frosty people.

The AGM will be held this Thursday, the 3rd March at 7pm in The Duke public house in East Keswick. All players welcome.

PC Sports Sale

Last season the club was sponsored by PC Sports who are a 20 minute journey outside Leeds city centre. With a good range of cricket equipment they are a good choice for anyone wanting to buy new gear before the start of the season. On Sunday 6th March from 10am - 4pm they have a massive sale on - see below. The club are currently looking at getting some (more) official cricket shirts and caps (i'll post details later in the week), so avoid buying a shirt for the time being if you need a new one and don't already have an official club shirt!

I have plans to go myself on Sunday afternoon so if anyone needs any equipment and wants to come along then drop me an e-mail.

Cricket Nets - The season starts here!

Finally(!) the following dates have been booked at Yorkshire CCC Indoor nets for the club. As you can see they are not all at the same time so please make a note of the dates or refer to the Events page on this site where this information can be found on a permanent basis.

16th January: 4pm - 6pm
23rd January: 4pm - 6pm
30th January: 4pm - 6pm
6th February: 4pm - 6pm
13th February: 4pm - 6pm

20th February: 2pm - 4pm
27th February: 2pm - 4pm
6th March: 2pm - 4pm
13th March: 2pm - 4pm
20th March: 2pm - 4pm

27th March: 4pm - 6pm
3rd April: 4pm - 6pm
10th April: 4pm - 6pm

Please note the following regarding pricing (note: I've asked for confirmation of the prices as it is slightly higher than last year) :

£100 - 2 nets for 2 hours (maximum of 16 people would pay £6.25 each for 2 hours)
£50 - 1 net for 2 hours (maximum of 8 people would pay £6.25 each for 2 hours)

If we do not have enough players for two nets I can cancel one during the week providing reasonable notice is given. Therefore I need people to let me know a week in advance if they are wanting to attend.

Every opportunity has been made in previous years to make sure that people who want to come to practices do so, even if they are not able to pay the full amount - for instance prices have generally been different for students. I'd encourage everyone to pay what they can afford and bear in mind that other people will be putting their hands in the pockets to make up the difference.

Coaching is also available at £25 per hour and a bowling machine at a similar price. I will speak to the club and see if some money can be found to pay for some coaching sessions as they can prove invaluable. If several people wish to club together and book a coaching session then this is also possible. Any more questions please feel free to ask. All information can be found here including the location of the nets if you are coming for the first time.

Please let me know via e-mail if you wish to attend the first net on Sunday, 16th January - 4pm to 6pm.
