On Saturday East Keswick went to Bilton requiring a win to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and the 1st XI went down by 7 wickets after a good platform gave them the chance of making 180+ but the tumbling of wickets meant they fell short. Bharath top scored in Keswick's total of 156 making a fine 46 and despite some tight middle order bowling the opposition reached the target with overs to spare.
Bank Holiday Monday saw the Eagles travel to Bardsey and take on the Super 8's in the LMS semi-final. Bowling first Keswick made a good start but a few expensive overs saw the Super 8's reach 186 (or so!) in their 20 overs.
In reply some explosive hitting from Rahul and some run-a-ball support from Andrew got Keswick off to a fine start as Rahul regularly smashed the ball to and over the boundary as he retired after making 50*. Bobby came to the wicket, blasted a few more fours and a six in making 19 before a fine catch in the deep removed him. Andrew reached 27 before being dismissed in a similar fashion, by the same fielder. Bharath and Venu tried to keep the runs flowing, but a debatable run out led to Venu's dismissal and Kamran fell first ball, Utchay was run out and Ravi hit six before being bowled the following ball.
This left Rahul to try and do the impossible and smash 11 an over off the remaining 3 overs. Smashing some massive blows he took Keswick within the last ball and a six off the last ball to win (which in LMS rules counts as 12!) but the excellent final over was capped by an excellent last ball and Keswick fell 10 or so runs short of victory and Rahul a mighty 75* from just 39 balls.
Well played to everyone involved, an excellent if disappointing end to the clubs first LMS season. (I'll post a link to the game's scorecard when it appears.
