League Structure - 2012 Season

The club received the following e-mail about the proposed Wetherby League structure from 2012.

"The Senior Cricket Committee have discussed the need to slightly change the league structure for next season so that we have six divisions as opposed to the current five and a half and we agreed that all clubs need to be informed of the change as soon as possible so everyone is aware of how many teams will be promoted and relegated this season.

We propose that no division shall consist of less than 10 teams and to increase the number of teams in division 6 for next season we will need to slightly reduce the teams in divisions 4 and 5. As it stands now we have 67 teams and based on this we propose the following:

·         Divisions 1 to 3 – unchanged with 12 teams in each division
·         Division 4 – reduced to 11 teams
·         Division 5 – reduced to 10 teams
·         Division 6 – increased to 10 teams

Obviously, this would reduce the number of league games for some teams but until we return to 72 teams it is very difficult for us to provide all teams with 22 league games per season. There will be an opportunity for teams to play additional games against those who also have blank league weeks if they prefer to do so which would limit the loss of fixtures/income. This will be looked at once the 2012 league fixture schedule has been finalised.

We believe that two teams should still be promoted from each division and the changes would be made by increasing the number of teams who are relegated (1 extra from division 4 and 3 extra from division 5).

We are actively seeking additional clubs/teams which may reduce the need to increase the number of teams relegated but until we have official applications we are working with what we currently have."
