Week 5 - Result
The 1st XI went down by 26 runs to Bramhope CC. Keswick made a good start to the game as Bramhope were 8 for 2 from 9 overs. This however was undone by some expensive bowling and explosive batting as the home side scored a good 221-7.
In reply the 1st XI were never really within touching distance of the total but thanks to a crisply hitt 50 from Bidyke Uche (who batted on despite a damaged hamstring) and 46 more from Chris Allen, they made a good game of it.
A full match report will appear later in the week.

East Keswick CC Honours Board
In recognition of those players scoring over 50 runs or taking 5 wickets in a game, we now have an (1st XI) Honours Board. With only a couple of games gone this season it's a little sparse, but we're sure it will fill up as the season progresses. You can click the image below to see it or visit the Statistics page where it will reside on a permanent basis. There will also be a 2nd XI board, information allowing.

2nd XI vs Wighill Park CC
The 2nd XI lost a very close game to Wighill Park CC by a couple of wickets. Opening the batting with the most testing of pitch conditions meant that after 26 overs we were all out for a paltry 45.
Wighill didnt fair much better with said pitch, and narrowly won ~ 25 overs later.
Bowling and fielding was excellent but the batting could have been better. Fingers crossed for next week when we play Whixley at home.
1st XI game was called of late this morning due to yet another water logged pitch (despite very sterling efforts from the groundsmen to get a game)

Pitch Inspection - Update
Some photos from this evening at about 8.30pm, click to enlarge. The new cover is very big, but not big enough to stop a couple of days of heavy rain from seeping underneath it. Had the forecast for tomorrow not been so good i'd have called the game off. But with some forecast sun and a dry evening it would be too soon to make a decision.
I took it off as if this wicket was going to be used then keeping it covered up wan't going to help it dry out. The foot holes are very squidgy, mainly because they have been filled in from the previous game and the soil used to fill them in is the consistency of thick custard. Ironically enough the wicket about 15 yards to the right of this which was cut earlier in the week is in much better condition and will probably be used - even if it leaves one massive boundary and one very short one.
It is possible to pull this cover off, complete with water with just one person - but it's quite heavy!
As you can see from the above picture, the outfield is very wet in places, leaving muddy footprints. In others however you'd hardly know it had been raining. Hopefully this will dry up some in the morning.

Week 4 - Pitch Inspection
I have spoken to the groundsman at East Keswick and been told that the wicket has been covered since Wednesday and should be ok, but he is concerned at the state of the outfield as parts of it are currently quite badly waterlogged.
The forecast for the rest of today and especially tomorrow is due to be fine and fairly sunny with some strong winds, so it will dry out - but whether it is enough remains to be seen. I'd rather see the outfield myself and make a decision as when it's sunny and warm tomorrow afternoon I dont want to be left wondering whether we could have played or not. I will try and go over either tonight or tomorrow morning for a look. I'll make an update later on Friday afternoon/evening.
Update: I will be going to the ground at around 7.30pm this evening for an inspection.

Week 3 - Result
The 1st XI lost by a single run following a topsy turvy game away to Rufforth. A fine 60* by James Cosgrove and some great lower order batting from Andy Barber (19) and Ravi Teja (21) was not quite enough to see Keswick over the winning line as the top order failed to fire as East Keswick slumped to 25-5 only recover and be bowled out for 158.
