AGM RESCHEDULED

‎**AGM - CHANGE OF DATE**

The AGM will now take place on Wednesday, 5th December at 7pm. All welcome. Apologies for the long delay in sorting this out..

Monday, 26 November 2012

AGM Update

The AGM has been provisionally made for Friday 30th November at 7pm at The Duke. Confirmation will be given by tomorrow evening.

***IMPORTANT*** If you are wanting to play next season, please either make the effort to come along or if you cant make it let me know your intentions. If you know of people who have expressed an interest in joining the club, please also let this know.

It is vital we have a good idea of how many players are available for the coming season as if we are struggling for numbers then there is the possibility the club will drop to just one team.

Due to the lack of people in East Keswick village who want to play the club now survives on the interest from people outside it. It is not extreme to say that without a group of core people running the club and those currently playing, there would be no more cricket at East Keswick CC, so we encourage everyone to be involved who can be.

Thanks

EKCC

2nd XI Win vs. Headingley A!

Due to Headingley fielding an inelegible player they have been stripped of their 6 points and had them given to the 2nd team.

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

Week 18 - Preview

Both teams face tough opposition this weekend with the 1st team hosting Kirk Deighton who have only lost one game this season. With relegation still not ruled out they will be looking for a good performance on the back of a heavy defeat to lowly Scarcroft A at the weekend where their number 3 batsman made his second century of the season, and his second against East Keswick.

The 2nd XI are away at Bramhope as they take on Headingley A who are only one point clear in 2nd place of Whixley A. On the back of two good wins with less than the full compliment of players they will be looking to give Headingley a good game with Ravi Teja making his first appearance of the season for them.

East Keswick 2nd XI vs Church Fenton 25th Aug Cancelled

Due to a mass holiday of players on the bank holiday weekend of the 25th of August, the friendly vs Church Fenton has been cancelled.

We shall have to amuse and abuse EK hero and now CF regular Ash Richardson another year..

This means now that there will be no game for the 2nd XI at all that weekend (for those who may have been hanging around desperate for leather against willow and did not get picked for the 1st XI)

Week 16 - Results

A good week for both teams!

The 1st XI won convincingly by 5 wickets at home vs Bramhope CC. Zaheer Abbas MOTM with 3 wickets and a cool 43* runs.

A very good result against promotion chasing Whixley CC saw the 2nd XI off the foot of the table*. EK posted 206-8 after 45 overs and bowled the home team out for a modest 120. Zee Khan taking the motm honors with 2 wickets and 54 with the bat.

*silly points deduction

Week 15 - Results

The 1st XI cruised to an impressive 9 wicket win against 3rd place St Chads Broomfield thanks to a superb bowling performance with Muhammad Kamran taking 3 for 21 and Man of the Match Bidyke Utchay flattening the Chads batting with an impressive 6-14. It left Chads reeling at 49 all out and Keswick knocked the runs off for the loss of one wicket as Farooq Maniyar continued his fine form with a well made 35.

The 2nd XI went down by just 12 runs to top of the table Wighill despite only have 10 men. Some fine bowling and fielding saw Wighill dismissed for just 112. In reply Tony Watson dug in for a well made 30 and Nagarjuna and Zuzu making contributions of their own to keep Keswick within reach of victory. In the end the 10 men told as the 2nd XI went down a dozen runs short.

Week 14 - Result

The 1st XI came up short on Saturday as they went down by just 7 runs to Rufforth.

A very good fielding and bowling performance saw Keswick keep Rufforth to a small target of just 132 for 8 from 45 overs with Bidyke Utchay taking 4-17, Ravi Teja 2-12, Kamran 1-11 and Zaheer Abbas 1-32.

In reply Keswick got within touching distance thanks to 47 from Keswick's Man of The Match Utchay and 36 from Farooq. Despite only needing 32 to win and having 6 wickets in had the Keswick batting order crumbled, losing four wickets for no runs and coming up 7 runs short in a disappointing loss.

With promotion chasing St Chads the opposition this Saturday Keswick will be looking to show a bit more grit in a potentially good batting department if they want to record their first win since the opening match of the season.

2nd XI win vs Kippax

East Keswick 2nd XI strolled to victory against as very depleted Kippax team. Good efforts from both the bat and ball meant that Kippax just had to much to do so at 12pm the game was called off due to them being unable to field a team.. 12pm!

Seeing as most of the team were on route to / at the the ground at that point a pairs game was played in which Tony Watson and Zuzu Ali came out victorious.

The hard earned win see's Keswick shoot up to 8th in the table, 1 point behind Green Hammerton.

1st XI vs. Sherburn CC - Game called off

The 1st team game against Sherburn has been called off as the outfield is covered in puddles.

2nd XI vs Sicklinghall Away Called Off

As a mark of respect to Mark Ramprakash's retirement this week all games in the UK have been called off. This is in no way related to the 50ml plus of rain we have had this last two days.

1st XI still waiting to confirm.

Tuesday, 3 July 2012

Week 11 - Results

After 3 weeks of abandoned games both East Keswick teams at last had the chance to play some cricket, but unfortunately both games were abandoned with the 1st XI on the brink of victory against Shadwell A. The 2nd XI had their game called off against Scholes with the home team 50-2.

The 1st XI restricted Shadwell A to 140-5 thanks to some excellent bowling from the Keswick bowlers. In reply Keswick were just 22 runs short when the rain came as man of the match Farooq led the reply with a fine 54.

2nd XI vs Amaranth Away Cancelled

As per usual this season the 2nd XI game has been called off due to a lake landing on a cricket pitch 24 hours before the start of the game..

Enjoy the wet weekend people

East Keswick 2nd XI vs Green Hammerton 2nd XI rained off

Sorry folks, East Keswick's home game vs Green Hammerton has been called off due to a water logged pitch and endless rain forcast for tomorrow. One can only hope the gods give us a smashing July and August to make up for it.

Week 8 - Weather Update #2

After a conversation with the groundsman the bad news is that the wicket and outfield are once again badly saturated. Even with no rain it is doubtful we can play tomorrow, but no decision will be made until 10am Saturday morning.

Thursday, 7 June 2012

Week 8 - Weather Update

As you might have noticed there's been a good deal of rain today. The forecast for Friday was due to be better with some light rain during the day, but in typical fashion this has changed to heavy rain for much of the day. The covers have been on the wicket all day and will also remain on tomorrow, but there will have to be an inspection Friday evening, or more likely Saturday morning.

Week 8 - Team Selection

The 1st XI team selection vs. Crossgates CC has been made and can be seen here. Please contact the 1st team captain if you unavailable for selection.

2nd XI Friendly vs. Church Fenton

The 2nd XI friendly game against Church Fenton has been called off due to East Keswick being unable to raise a side.

Friday, 1 June 2012

Week 7 - Match Previews

The 1st XI look to get back to winning ways against a Kirk Deighton team that sits in second place in Division 3. With some poor team batting performances so far this season some smarter shot selection will be required, especially from the Keswick top order.

The 2nd XI face the mighty challenge of a home match against a Headingley A side that amassed a giant 308-2 against Green Hammerton last week. 85 runs alone came in the last 5 overs as Chris Page smashed 119* from just 58 balls. Traditionally Keswick have always given a much stronger Headingley outfit a good game, so let's hope this is the case on Saturday.

Best of luck to everyone, and let's hope for some improved performances all round.

We hope you enjoy playing for the club and wish you the best of luck on Saturday.

Week 5 - Result

The 1st XI went down by 26 runs to Bramhope CC. Keswick made a good start to the game as Bramhope were 8 for 2 from 9 overs. This however was undone by some expensive bowling and explosive batting as the home side scored a good 221-7.

In reply the 1st XI were never really within touching distance of the total but thanks to a crisply hitt 50 from Bidyke Uche (who batted on despite a damaged hamstring) and 46 more from Chris Allen, they made a good game of it.

A full match report will appear later in the week.

Week 5 - Team Selections

The teams for the Week 5 games against Bramhope CC and Whixley CC have now been made and can be seen here. If you find yourself unable to play please inform your captain.

East Keswick CC Honours Board

In recognition of those players scoring over 50 runs or taking 5 wickets in a game, we now have an (1st XI) Honours Board. With only a couple of games gone this season it's a little sparse, but we're sure it will fill up as the season progresses. You can click the image below to see it or visit the Statistics page where it will reside on a permanent basis. There will also be a 2nd XI board, information allowing.

2nd XI vs Wighill Park CC

The 2nd XI lost a very close game to Wighill Park CC by a couple of wickets. Opening the batting with the most testing of pitch conditions meant that after 26 overs we were all out for a paltry 45.

Wighill didnt fair much better with said pitch, and narrowly won ~ 25 overs later.

Bowling and fielding was excellent but the batting could have been better. Fingers crossed for next week when we play Whixley at home.

1st XI game was called of late this morning due to yet another water logged pitch (despite very sterling efforts from the groundsmen to get a game)

Pitch Inspection - Update

Some photos from this evening at about 8.30pm, click to enlarge. The new cover is very big, but not big enough to stop a couple of days of heavy rain from seeping underneath it. Had the forecast for tomorrow not been so good i'd have called the game off. But with some forecast sun and a dry evening it would be too soon to make a decision.

I took it off as if this wicket was going to be used then keeping it covered up wan't going to help it dry out. The foot holes are very squidgy, mainly because they have been filled in from the previous game and the soil used to fill them in is the consistency of thick custard. Ironically enough the wicket about 15 yards to the right of this which was cut earlier in the week is in much better condition and will probably be used - even if it leaves one massive boundary and one very short one.

It is possible to pull this cover off, complete with water with just one person - but it's quite heavy!

As you can see from the above picture, the outfield is very wet in places, leaving muddy footprints. In others however you'd hardly know it had been raining. Hopefully this will dry up some in the morning.

Week 4 - Pitch Inspection

I have spoken to the groundsman at East Keswick and been told that the wicket has been covered since Wednesday and should be ok, but he is concerned at the state of the outfield as parts of it are currently quite badly waterlogged.

The forecast for the rest of today and especially tomorrow is due to be fine and fairly sunny with some strong winds, so it will dry out - but whether it is enough remains to be seen. I'd rather see the outfield myself and make a decision as when it's sunny and warm tomorrow afternoon I dont want to be left wondering whether we could have played or not. I will try and go over either tonight or tomorrow morning for a look. I'll make an update later on Friday afternoon/evening.

Update: I will be going to the ground at around 7.30pm this evening for an inspection.

Week 3 - Match Report

The week 3 match report for the 1st team game against Rufforth CC can be found here.

Tuesday, 8 May 2012

Week 3 - Result

The 1st XI lost by a single run following a topsy turvy game away to Rufforth. A fine 60* by James Cosgrove and some great lower order batting from Andy Barber (19) and Ravi Teja (21) was not quite enough to see Keswick over the winning line as the top order failed to fire as East Keswick slumped to 25-5 only recover and be bowled out for 158.

Week 3 - 1st Team Selection

The 1st team selection for the game away against Rufforth is now up on the Team Selection page.

Friday, 27 April 2012

Week 2 - 1st Team game is cancelled

The 1st team game has been called off. The outfield is heavily waterlogged and even if there were no rain until 1.30pm tomorrow, it would still be too wet to play. The picture below is not indicative of the cricket pitch itself, but shows how much rain has fallen (far end of field).

Week 2 - Weather Update

The 1st XI game is currently still on pending news from East Keswick. A decision could be made on Friday (before 12pm) to call the game off if it looks likely the outfield and wicket will still be unplayable come Saturday lunchtime. If there is a chance the game will go ahead the decision will be delayed until later on Friday, or possibly first thing Saturday morning. A team has been selected and can be seen here. Transport to follow on the East Keswick Facebook page.

Edit - Covers have been on the wicket, but there has been so much rain the chances are it has run under them and on to the wicket. The outfield was still wet from last weekend and another 5cm of rain over the last two days is likely to mean large puddles of water on the outfield. We shall see....

The 2nd XI game away at Kippax has been called off.

2nd XI vs Kippax Rained Off

The East Keswick 2nd XI vs Kippax (away) for this Saturday (28/04/12) has been called off due to a water logged pitch.

Our next fixture is vs Wighill Park (Away) on the 12th of May.

Week 1 - Results

The opening week of the 2012 season saw the first XI take all six points and win at Sherburn by two wickets thanks to some excellent Keswick bowling and some composed batting at the death.

The 2nd XI also bowled well to dismiss Sicklinghall for a small total, only to fail to chase down the total and lose by 33 runs.

Match reports to follow.

Week 1 - Team Selection

The team selections for week 1 have been made and can be seen here.

If you are unable to play, please let your respective captain in as much time as possible.

The sound of leather on willow is almost here....

With the season starting this Saturday the club would like to wish all our players the best of luck and a successful year. We've lost a few players and gained a few more, so hopefully there will be plenty of competition for places.

  • For those 1st team players who are driving to Sherburn you can get directions by clicking on the link in the Upcoming Fixtures box on the right of the screen. If you've never driven to East Keswick's ground before you can click here for a map.
  • The club tries to maintain a fair selection policy regarding all players. It's not always easy to keep everyone happy, but to give you some idea of how we try and do things you can read about it here.
  • We will confirm the price of playing each game (subs) and the club registration fee. Please make sure you read it and understand the costs involved. The club isn't here to make a profit, just to provide people with the opportunity to play cricket. Like all things however this comes at a running cost to the club (cost of balls, petrol, maintenance etc.)
