There are of course Cup games coming up, as well as the Thursday Evening League games. If you can play in those games let James or Neil know as the aim is to get everyone a game who wants one.

Week 2 - 2nd Team Statistics

After just two games the 2nd team have conceeded a mammoth 71 runs in extras. This includes 22 wides, 17 no balls, 19 byes and 13 leg-byes (and works out at nearly a quarter of all the runs scored by the opposition!) In addition only 4 out of 11 possible catches have been taken as well as numerous misfields that have led to runs being conceeded. Clearly some improvement is needed by bowlers and fielders!

Week 2 - Results

Week 2 saw the 1st team bounce back with a victory. Restricting Kirk Hammerton to 168-8 off 45 over they knocked the runs off with ease reaching the total for the loss of just 3 wickets (no further information at present).

The 2nd team suffered an agonising and self inflicted three wicket loss that came down to the last ball of the game, when a thick edge to third man brought Sherburn Eversley a narrow victory. The 2nd team did themselves no favours bowling 11 wides, 9 no balls, putting down 2 dropped catches and a displaying a wide selection of sloppy fielding that gave a couple dozen easy runs to the opposition.

Ashley Richardson top scored for the second week running scoring 63, whilst James Cosgrove and Sohail Mohammed chipped in with useful scores of 39 and 35 respectively. The bowling was headed by Sohail Mohammed who took 3-53, Ashley Richardson with 2-35 and James Cosgrove who took 2-41. Mohammed Ashfaq's excellent last over however was not enough to win Keswick the game.

Thursday Evening League - Availability

Just a reminder that on Thursday evenings Neil Chapman is running a team in the Whixley Evening League. Hopefully people who have not played on Saturday, or who have perhaps have played but not had chance to bat or bowl, will be given an opportunity to turn out if they are available. All players are however encouraged to put their name down.

The first game is : 7th May - Bolton Percy (Away). Start time is 6.30pm. The game will be 16 overs of 8 balls per over. With bowlers bowling no more than 4 overs each and with a run-up limited to 12 yards.

If you are interested in playing then please let Neil know by dropping him an e-mail: nelleychap123@aol.com

If you are not available every week, please let Neil know when you can play - it can be hard work trying to find players at short notice and knowing in advance who is and is not available would be very helpful.

Not much to see after just the one game, but Ash's knock of 151 featured 15 fours and 9 sixes, meaning he scored a mammoth 114 of those runs in boundaries.

Week 1 - Results

The first week of the season brought a loss for the East Keswick 1st team and a 5 point win for the 2nd's.

Thorner Mexborough batted first and made 229 all out, with East Keswick 1st's falling short at 205 all out in reply. (No other details at present)

The 2nd team made 312/8 on an easy paced wicket, with Ashley Richardson hitting a stunning career best of 151, whilst being well supported Sohail Mohammed who made an stylish 55, and Andrew Hirst making 42. In reply Green Hammerton A made 131/5 as several several vital catches were dropped and the bowlers struggled on an excellent batting wicket which offered little help to the ball.

Availablility for League, Evening League and Cup games

This is mainly directed at 2nd team players as I don't know 1st team arrangements and wouldn't want to suggest anything out of turn...

Can 2nd team players e-mail any dates that you know you are not available for during the season so James and myself know who is available from week to week. I know Neil had problems getting a team during last season so take make things easier it would be useful to have idea in advance when people are not available.

Can you also let me know if you would like to play in the Whixley Evening League (the website is crap and not updated!) We don't have the fixtures are of yet, but I think the league starts mid-May. Neil Chapman will be running this team on Thursday evenings. Also cup games; fixtures on the Wetherby League website.

I think(?) it has been agreed that the team we will put out will be a mix of first team and second team players.

Results & Statistics Tracker

If anyone in the 1st team wishes to use it, I have an excel spreadsheet that tracks runs, wickets, catches, averages and results. If nothing else it makes it easy to work out who has won the averages at the end of the season. All that's needed is a copy of Microsoft Excel 2007. E-mail me at the East Keswick e-mail address. Here are a few screen shots....(click to enlarge)

Wetherby League Meeting

Last night myself (Andrew) and James attended the Wetherby League meeting on behalf of the club. We picked up a dozen new balls which have been paid for. Hopefully the presentation at the Old Star will raise some money to enable more to be bought. The main points from the meeting were as follows :

  • Match Results - As well as phoning in the results on the evening of the game, they will now have to be uploaded electronically (see here for file) to the Wetherby League website by 10pm Monday evening. We will have our own account that will enable us to do this.

  • Umpires - A list of games in which umpires will be used for the 1st team has been provided. Due to a lack of umpires at certain points of the season there will be certain weeks where none will be available. The list has been passed on to Neil Chapman, who will hopefully make it available to anyone wanting to see it.

  • Player Registration - This can still be done by post, but it will also be able to be done via an online form from the Wetherby League website. The registrations will still be able to be done up to 10pm on the evening of the Friday before the game and any player transferring from another club will have to have all the necessary details confirmed by the club they are leaving. The same goes for any player leaving the club. Any player "dragged in from the pub" to play at the last minute should be registered as the club will not be insured in the event of injury.

Captain's must ensure all new players are registered by the 17th April at 10pm at the latest!

Subs & Tea prices for 2009 Season

All players should note that the subs for this season will be £5 per game for adults, £3 for juniors. Additionally the price of buying a tea will be £2.50 (TBC). Although these are an increase on previous prices they are still very reasonable compared to some clubs and reflect the increase in both the money needed to keep the club running and the increase in food prices.

Fixtures - 2009 Season

The following links to the Wetherby League website provide the fixtures lists for the league games in the 2009 season.

1st Team - Division 2
2nd Team - Division 6

Ground Improvement News

During the past few months a good deal of work has been done on the ground in order to spruce it up and make it more presentable. The outside of the building has been painted, the window frames sanded and wood stained, benches have been stripped and stained, the clubhouse changing rooms/floors and scoreboard numbers painted, as well as the small room next to the away dressing room cleared out to make an umpire’s room. There are currently plans to erect some new moveable sightscreens before the season starts.

Additionally the field and square have been well looked after and are looking in good condition for the start of the season. (Click to enlarge photos)

Presentation Evening

On April 17th at 7pm there will be a presentation evening at The Old Star in East Keswick. Aside from handing out trophies there will be food available, for a price, in order to raise money for the club. It would be appreciated if people could bring along a little something to eat in order to help raise some much needed money! Speak to Mark Abram for further information.
